Affiliate disclosure

What commercial relationships we have, what we earn, and how that affects what you see.

Affiliate links active

Some links on this site are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

What that means right now

We are an Amazon Associate. Where we recommend a tool or a piece of safety equipment and have an affiliate link for it, clicking that link and buying may earn us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and the price you pay is the same either way.

What it does not change is what we recommend. Products are selected by the calculator from your project — the material you chose, how it installs, the space you are working in — and that selection runs before any affiliate link is attached. Items we earn nothing from appear on the same lists, in the same order, with the same prominence. Several items on every list have no purchase link at all.

We deliberately show no prices, star ratings, review counts or stock status. We have no approved product data feed, those values change daily, and a figure copied by hand would be wrong by the time you read it.

Bulk insulation is linked the same way as everything else: the Amazon search is an affiliate link, and the Home Depot and Lowe's searches are plain ones. Bulk material is often cheaper in store than online, and the list says so beside the buttons.

Retailers we link to

Where a shopping list item is available at a major retailer, we may link to it. We are not partners with, affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of these companies:

Retailer and manufacturer names are used descriptively, to tell you where a product can be bought. Their use does not imply any relationship or endorsement in either direction.

How we choose what to recommend

Shopping list contents are generated from your calculation — the material you selected, the quantity your project needs, and the air sealing, safety gear, and tools that method requires. Nothing on the list is there because of a commercial relationship, and nothing is excluded for lack of one.

If affiliate relationships become active, this will not change. Where we recommend a specific product over an alternative, the reason will be in the text.

What we don't do

  • We don't show live prices. We have no product feed. Price ranges on the site are our own estimates from national averages, clearly labeled as estimates.
  • We don't publish reviews or ratings. We have no first-party review data, and we won't display invented star ratings or review counts.
  • We don't sell your information. The calculator collects nothing that identifies you and there is no lead form. The only data that leaves your browser is the anonymous summary described in our privacy policy.
  • We don't accept payment for placement. No retailer or manufacturer can pay to appear in a recommendation.

Contractor referrals

We are paid for installer quote requests. When you submit the quote request form, we pass your project to insulation professionals who cover your area, or to a lead service such as Angi, and we are paid either by the contractor for the introduction or by the lead service. This is now the main way the site earns, and it is why the calculators are free.

What that does not change is what the calculators tell you. They are run by the same engine whether the answer is "hire someone" or "this is a weekend job", they show the DIY cost next to the professional one every time, and the DIY shopping list is still there on every result. We would rather you did it yourself and came back than be sent to a contractor you did not need.

We do not take payment for ranking one contractor above another, and the order in which installers receive a request is not for sale. Our quotes guide is editorial content and recommends no specific company.

Elsewhere on the site we also link to Angi as a way to find installers yourself. Those links are plain and unpaid today; if that changes, this page will say so before it does. What we do with your details when you request quotes is set out in our privacy policy.

If we add a contractor referral arrangement, it will be disclosed on this page and on the page where it operates, before you provide any information.
