The short version
- The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into one is sent to us unless you submit a form
- If you request installer quotes, we pass your details to insulation professionals so they can contact you — that is the whole point of the form, and we are paid for it
- We never share your details with anyone except to fulfil a request you made
- Our own code sets no cookies. Google Analytics sets its cookies only outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland
- Analytics never receive your name, email, phone or address
This summary is here so you can skim it. The sections below are the actual policy.
What the calculator does with your inputs
The calculation runs in JavaScript in your browser, using data already downloaded with the page — there is no server-side processing involved at all. Your ZIP code and the individual measurements you type are not transmitted anywhere. The only part of a result that leaves your device is the anonymous summary described under Analytics below — unless you choose to request installer quotes, which sends what you type into that form.
Your inputs are stored in the page URL so results can be bookmarked or shared. That URL only goes somewhere if you deliberately share it. If you'd rather not keep it, clearing the address bar or closing the tab discards everything.
Analytics
Page views are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it collects aggregate data only — page views, referrer, approximate country, device type — does not fingerprint you, and cannot identify you.
We also use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and a small set of anonymous interaction events: that a calculation was started or finished, that the shopping list or the installer-quotes button was used, and that a retailer or Angi link was clicked. An event can carry the page, the project type, the total area and material of the calculation, the midpoint of the professional estimate, your state (worked out in your browser from the ZIP, which itself is never sent), and which button was used.
Events never include your name, email address, phone number, street address, ZIP code, or anything else that identifies you. The code that sends them refuses any value that looks like an email address or a phone number.
Google's script loads after the page has finished loading. We have turned off Google's advertising features, such as Google Signals and ad personalisation. For visitors in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs in Google's consent mode with analytics storage denied: it sets no cookies and sends Google only cookieless, aggregate signals.
Cookies
Our own code sets no cookies. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies of ours.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga and_ga_TD0D3VSW9V, which hold a random identifier so it can tell a returning browser from a new one. They identify a browser, not a person, and are not used for advertising. They are never set for visitors in the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland. If we add any other tool that sets cookies, it will be named here before it goes live.
Requesting installer quotes
The quote request form is the one place on this site where we deliberately collect personal information, and where we deliberately pass it on. That is not a side effect — it is what the form is for. You cannot be matched with a local installer without the installer being told who you are and how to reach you.
When you submit that form we receive, and store, what you entered:
- your first and last name, email address and phone number;
- your ZIP code and, if you gave it, your city;
- the project details — what you are insulating, approximate area, the insulation you have in mind, your timeframe, and any notes you wrote;
- the page you submitted from, the exact wording of the consent you agreed to, and the time you agreed to it.
We do not ask for your street address, and we do not collect payment details anywhere on this site.
Who we share it with, and why
We pass your request to insulation professionals who cover your area, and to lead services such as Angi where we have no direct contractor near you. They contact you about your project, and they are the ones who quote and do the work. Once your details reach them, their own privacy policies apply alongside ours.
We are paid for this — either by a contractor for the introduction, or by a lead service. This is how the calculators stay free, and we would rather say so plainly than describe it as a free matching service. See our disclosure.
What we will not do: share or sell your details to anyone who is not fulfilling the request you made, add you to a marketing list, or pass your information to data brokers, advertisers or anyone outside that purpose.
Changing your mind
Write to us and we will delete your request, tell you who it was already sent to, or correct it. If a contractor has already received it, ask them to remove it too — we will tell you exactly who to ask. There is no account to close.
We keep quote requests for as long as they are useful to the business and to answer a question about what we did with yours, and the consent record is kept with the request for as long as the request exists.
The contact form
If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your email address, your name if you gave one, and whatever you write. We use them to reply and nothing else. We don't add you to a mailing list and we don't share them.
The form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, which confirms a submission came from a person rather than a script. It is a privacy-preserving alternative to a CAPTCHA: it sets no tracking cookie, does not fingerprint you for advertising, and is not used to build a profile. Your submission is then relayed to our inbox by Cloudflare's email service. Alongside the message, that notification records the country Cloudflare reports for your connection and your browser's user-agent string — the first because a pricing or code question usually depends on where you are, the second because “the layout is broken” is unanswerable without knowing the browser.
Links to other sites
Shopping lists link to retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe's, and Amazon. Once you follow a link, that retailer's privacy policy applies, not ours. They will likely set their own cookies and track your activity on their site.
Where an affiliate relationship is active, our links to that retailer carry a tracking identifier so a purchase can be credited back to us — never anything that identifies you. Right now that's true of Amazon links only, which carry the identifier in the link itself. We have no active affiliate relationship with Home Depot or Lowe's, so links to those retailers carry no tracking. See our affiliate disclosure for which relationships are active right now.
The “Get free local installer quotes” button goes to our own quote request form, described under Requesting installer quotes above. Elsewhere on the site we also link to Angi, an independent marketplace, as a way to find installers yourself. Those are plain links that carry no tracking identifier, and following one sends Angi nothing about you.
Hosting and logs
The site is served as static files through Cloudflare. As with any web host, standard server logs may record IP addresses and request details for security and operational purposes. We don't use these logs to build profiles.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this is somewhat academic.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you. In practice we hold no personal data about site visitors — there are no accounts and the calculator transmits nothing. If you've emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, ask and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially — particularly if we begin collecting information we don't collect today — we'll update the date at the top and describe what changed.
